Comments Ray Sanchez owner of Golden Frog Scuba made the arrangements for a hotel and meals in Portobello. The hotel (El Bongo) was comfortable and the meals were good. A working knowledge of Spanish would be useful in translating menus and communicating with staff.
We were diving in the rainy season (November). The tropical forest comes down to the shore and streams carry silt out into the dive sites. The dry season December -March would probably bring better diving conditions.

We were traveling as a group of nine divers. The service provided by Ray Sanchez and his staff at Golden Frog Scuba was excellent. Diving was conducted safely. Diving was conducted from open boats with sun covers on them. The dive ladders were easy to use and the staff provided assistance if needed. The surface interval between two dives was taken at a beach with maintained porta poddies and we just floated in shallow warm water eating fresh pineapple and cookies provided by Golden Frog.

I do not know if I would go to Panama just to scuba dive, but as part of a land tour it was enjoyable.
