Comments Palau takes diving several steps higher! I usually keep my trip highlight report fairly concise, but Palau had way too many highlights.

Five of us, of the originally expected 7, lasted to the Palau portion of our trip. One of us injured his calf diving in Guam on the way to Palau, and one got sick 2 days before the trip. We arrived at our hotel at 1am.

We spent the next day as a rest day -- we actually wound up touring the largest island in our vehicle and hiked to a waterfall -- before starting 5 consecutive days of dives with Palau Dive Adventures. What a treat!!

Our dives included some reefs, walls, channels, holes, a tunnel, wartime wrecks, a "Jake" seaplane wreck, and 2 or 3 "corner" dives -- Siaes Corner and Blue Corner, notably. Corners are places where reef walls end and the current rushes up from the deep and over the lip of the wall during the right tidal phase. We had to use reef hooks -- hadn't used those before -- with 6-foot lines clipped to our BCs to hold us stationary while getting buffeted by the current like kites in strong wind. So we stay relatively stationary in the current and watch the parade of gray reef sharks, black-tips, 1000s of triggers, bumphead parrots, unicorns, grouper, bluefi ...
