Comments Kosrae is a lush tropical high volcanic island with nice beaches. It is quite pretty. I thought it might be the easternmost extension of the macro diving one finds in Indonesia/Philippines. It is not. It has lots of hard corals and Christmas Tree Worms but not much else.
The Nautilus Resort is one of two resorts on the island. The resort is small, caters to the local populace and is quite nice. The attached restaurant has a good inexpensive menu with large portions. Josh, the current owner and previous tax accountant, won the resort in a raffle three years ago (Undercurrent had an article about that). Josh was not a diver and now depends on long term staff members Salik and Ben to try to keep the small dive operation going. Our group of six divers plus two other divers was almost more than the place could handle - the drying rack collapsed when we all hung up our gear after our first dive day.
The missionaries did a good job here. There is no diving on Sunday; no alcohol on Sunday, either. Our non-divers enjoyed the place and felt quite safe on their walks. The locals are delightful.
After a pleasant week of mediocre diving here we moved on to Pohnpei.
