Comments I've been to Roatan 5 times, with trips to Utilla and Guanaja. Until lately, I was forced to fly TACA airlines to get there. They have the worst service of any airline I've ever used-including little 12 seat island hoppers. They once took my party of 8 people to belize, guatemala, and several other central american countries, along with 3 cities in Honduras and a flight over the Pacific coast on what was supposed to be a 2+ hr direct flight from Houston to Roatan. During this trip we were constantly lied to. When we got upset, the local Taca staff sent us to any other destination, just to make us somebody else's problem. This 2 hour trip took us 2 days including an overnight stay! I watched as they removed some of our bags and left them on the runway so that they could accomodate some new passengers that boarder along the way. We had to stand in front of the plane and refuse to move. After the pilots, the airport manager, and several armed security people took turns screaming in spanish and english at us and each other, the pilots grudgingly relented and reloaded our luggage onto the plane-all the while complaining about being overweight and unsafe. The concept of removing the new passengers' luggage was unthinkable.! upon arrival in Roatan, they had managed to lose one diver's complete luggage, both dive gear and personal items. The luggage arrived a week later-just in time for the return trip. I'm not the only one with bad experiences with TACA-They are famous among my friends for total indifference and incredibly bad service. I contacted TACA and related my experience and dissatisfaction(politely) and they told me in so many words, tough luck, and they made no effort to make things right by us. Aparently they are the classic government run burocracy and are not interested in providing even minimal service. Save yourself some potential major problems-fly anyone else!. Continental is now flying direct to Roatan and I've used them several times without problems.
