Comments It was the rainy season and guess what; it rained. We had a few nice days and even did some diving on the beautiful West End Wall, the premiere dive site, but the Coral was all BLEACHED white from the hot summer water. The water temp was still 86 when we got there. That notwithstanding, there were good populations of reef fish at West End Wall and Black Rock such as snapper, filefish, Blue Tang, Parrot and Barracuda. Big Turtles too. Soft coral abounds. Thankfully, Roatan divers took the Lionfish population way down from years ago.
Then the storms came in and it seemed like our trip was doomed to drinking and partying at the many good restaurants and bars that abound near the resort, but Dive operator Chris saved our diving by renting a pier on the eastern leeward side of the island where the sea was calm. He then bussed us over to dive to the east side walls which were wonderful. Even more sea life than the West Bay with lots of Grouper in attendance not to mention Arrow crabs, Neck crabs, Baby Box fish, peacock flounder and some unbleached coral all pointed out by the Sterling our #1 divemaster. The rain made low vis in the shallows but great vis lower down. Chris turned a disaster into great diving and never charged us for his extra expenses.
Kudos to the staff Splash Inn.
