Comments [None]The negatives are about entering and leaving
Roatan. It took about 1 hour and 45 minutes to go thru immigration while standing in a hot line/building. They were not fast at processing your entry. Before entering one needs to get their custom form and fill it out on line. They never looked at it upon entering. Be warned that you have to fill out an exit custom form before exiting. I did not know that I was not the only one to be in that boat. No real info on that on the government website that I saw.
The resort is basic but clean. Not a great place to take kids but it is welcoming to divers. The dive shop is well run and very easy to work with. Three scheduled dives per day and they come back to the dock between dives. Dive guides were friendly and dove at a nice slow pace. Several days I had my own dive guide (got spoiled) as it was the slow season and I was the only diver, not counting a couple of divers taking a class with their own dive guide. Maximun divers with my diving/guide was three the whole week. Food was very good. Recommend the all inclusive plan. Not completely all inclusive but left not spending any extra money for food.
West End is safe as far as I saw. Several other restaurants and the usual shops for tourists on the only main road. There is a beach about a 3 to 4 minute walk up the street. Corals showed coral bleaching in places. Only saw one lion fish. Guides said that they have been harvesting them at West End and hopefully their numbers can be kept in check. Saw several large turtles and two sightings of an eagle ray. Other than that, typical Roatan fish. But was shown a Black Aglaja nudibranch on the sandy bottom. They are about 1cm long. Very, very tiny. Probably have dove over thousands before but never knew they existed until pointed out by dive guide Sterling. Look them up! I do recommend the resort and the staff.
