Comments This was our first time diving in Roatán and our first time on a liveaboard, so perhaps my enthusiasm and amazement are functions of the novelty of the experience. But I don’t think so. All our fellow divers were quite experienced both in terms of diving and with the Aggressor fleet, and they all agreed that this vessel is far and away one of the best they have experienced. The crew was top notch: knowledgeable about the sea, generous with sharing what they know, patient with solving equipment snafus, and both clear and inflexible about safety. A safety officer was part of the crew, someone who was patrolling the boat, especially the camera charging station, continuously through the night. The food was better than I can possibly describe, and the chef could easily be a star at any elite restaurant in the world. The diving was diverse, and included sea mounts, wrecks, swim-throughs, and walls. The coral was vibrant and appeared to be healthy, although none of them had the kind of large physical structure I’ve seen in the Bahamas. Although we didn’t see any of the very large animals we had hoped for (whale sharks and eagle rays), we saw an incredible array of hundreds of other species ranging from the very small and cryptic (such as sea horses, mantis shrimp, and blennies) to the large-ish (reef sharks, nurse sharks, and groupers, in particular). Water temperatures were consistently in the mid- to upper 80s (F), and a few times even warmer, so although I brought a 2mm shortie, I rarely dove with more than swim trunks and a rash guard. Some of our dives were into strong current without great visibility, but some of the dives were the exact opposite, so every dive was a new experience. Pre-dive briefings were clear and extremely helpful in understanding the topography we were diving down to. Accommodations were comfortable with an impressive amount of in-room storage (which I needed, since like all first timers I brought way more clothing than I actually needed). The only recommendation I would make to improve the experience would be to create more holdfasts on the wetsuit racks to prevent them from moving around in the wind quite so much; my dive station was right under one of the racks, and while gearing up I was often getting slapped around by unused wetsuits sliding back and forth in the wind. Otherwise, the entire trip – in the water and on-board – was first rate.
