Comments My third time to Roatan and second at Reefgliders. Since my last visit 12 years ago they changed owners and upgraded everything, 2 boats, larger building, on site restaurant/bar. But they still have the professional yet laid back vibe.
We stayed two weeks in nearby Airbnb’s to minimize the walk. The two we found are on the point about 100 yards from the dive shop, so all good there. We typically lunch ate at the Blue Marlin which is the on site restaurant. Food is great quality, for example, the lunch special (varies every day, this is one example) fish sandwich and fries, incl. beer or soda, $10. Hard to beat and if you want you can preorder your beer and food so that as the boat pulls in it is set up for you.
There are at least 2 single tank dives per day at 0900 and 1130. There may also be afternoon dives on request. Depending on the experience of each diver or ongoing certification classes, people are grouped appropriately. In our experienced group we were frequently just a couple or max 4 people plus DM. We dove a good variety on the north coast both E and W, as well as several times around the point to the south coast.
Roatan is the ideal place for easy diving and I recommend for newer divers. We are experienced but love the easy pace and long dives, 60-75 mins. You can expect all the normal tropical fish, rays, turtles, sometimes dolphins.
Highlight was the Tuesday night dive where the phosphorescence and the string of pearls were both seen.
There are weekly combo dive/snorkel trips further afield. We chose to stay and just dive as before.
The value for money is outstanding, as after just 10 dives you are at a rate of just $35 per dive (June 2023). Can’t beat that. There is a supplement for night dives and for the round the island tours.
The boat is managed as VIP service, ie your gear is waiting on the boat already setup as you specified, and is taken down , rinsed and stored under lock for next day. Want to add, subtract weight, just ask, it’s all rebalanced for you.
All in all a great experience: beautiful diving, great service, warm water, no current, great value.
