Comments Coco View

One week at Coco View in Beach House Casa Azul. Took photo lessons with Mickey Charteris.

Flew Delta from Atlanta. Fill out the immigration for online for each person(Prechequeo). Fill out the Customs form online(Honduras Traveler’s Declaration, one per family or solo traveler). They still passes out paper Traveler’s Declarations on the inbound flight. You also have to do the Traveler’s Declaration departing Honduras as well. Paper copies are available at the airport, if you forget to do it online. The Anthony’s Key Website has the best info on completing these forms. Scroll to the bottom of their home page to Useful Links>Honduras Travel Requirements.

Immigration waiting line has plenty of indoor air conditioned room. Two plane loads can be inside. If you did your Prechequeo, you’ll just present your passports as a family, answer a few questions, photo, finger prints and your are done. Collect baggage, then present your customs form and have your baggage scanned. After the scanner, tell the baggage handlers you are going to Coco View(make sure your Coco View tags on on your bags). Other wise exit and look for the Coco View representative. Coco View bus to the resort landing, then a short boat ride to the resort. Head to the dining room/club house to fill out paper work and have lunch. I like to bring a little crushed red pepper from home for the spaghetti lunch. After lunch, you can grab your dive bag from the dock and load your gear into your locker. Otherwise, all your bags will be deliver to you room/beach house.

The Casa Azul beach house is at the far end of the road, but comes with and electric cart. It is very quiet and is roomy, with a full kitchen and two bedrooms. Both bedrooms are individually air conditioned. You have use of bicycles as well.

Air temps were 85-90 F, with unusual winds out of the west all week. Over night rain showers about every other night. A few isolated day time showers. Water temps 84-84F. Sand Flies late afternoon, especially out of the breeze. They seem to like the locker areas in the afternoons. A light DEET concentration bug spray or Nurse Andreas natural repellant(sold in the gift shop) worked for us. I tend to wear long pants and long sleeves as much as I can, for bugs and sun protection.

We were on Coco I boat with DM Gringo and Cape Davison. We really enjoy diving with
Gringo (her’s great at spotting small stuff) and request him. Although, all the other guest seem to like their boats and dive masters. The resort really is a well oiled machine. We appreciate the freedom to boat dive and also shore dive on our own schedule, any time of day. They load your gear every day and then rinse and store it after your last dive. We had flat seas all week, but the center well and ladders are very nice in rough water. The GM Stacy, makes the rounds during the week, checking to see how you are enjoying your stay. He is also knows the dive sites and has a good eye for small critters. He was with us on a dive on the Mister Bud and pointed out some Painted Elysia.

My wife and I are beginning photographers and the lessons with Mickey really helped our lighting technique and understanding of white balance for ambient light shots. It really helps, being able to hangout for an hour or more on the Prince Albert wreck and practice different techniques. In front of the resort, you also have the two wall dives(and shallow reef above) and the shallow turtle grass flats. Mickey also has a photo shop with gear and rentals, it you want to give photography a try.

At the end or our stay, instead of flying out, we were taking the ferry to Guanaja. Coco View let us hang out in the club house after the normal departures and then paid for a separate taxi to take us to the ferry terminal.
