Comments We are a group of 9 divers that stayed with Tom and company for a week in May. Having never been to this area before, I didn't even know what expectations to have. To sum it up, this place was well beyond any expectations I could have imagined! Tom, Laurie, and Elizabeth are the owners of the resort and are very hands on. Their genuine desire to make our trip spectacular was evidenced every day. Laurie actually flew in with us and assisted in getting us from the airport to the ferry. Tom met us at the ferry dock in Guanaja and from that point on, everything was handled for us. I have never been to a resort that was only reachable by boat and as we approached, at dusk, we could see a beautiful place all lit up, sitting on the hillside, when Tom announced that that is where we were going, I was giddy.

We were given a tour of the property, assigned rooms and allowed to settle in for a bit before the parade of foods began with homemade pizzas. Yajaida is the chef and has helpers in Annie and Catalina ( and Laurie). Each meal was a complete delight. We had local foods and Hungarian delights (Laurie's family roots). The desserts were over the top amazing. The pecan muffins alone are beckoning for me to return! All meals are served at the large dining table and are accompanied by fresh juices from fruits on the property. Amazing. I have a slight addiction to Dr Pepper and know it is hard to find in that region, but Tom came through and I was able to make my Dr appointments each day after lunch! The dining area was our gathering spot, and we would clear the table and play games and eat treats well into the night.

The rooms are very comfortable and each have their own bathroom. AC worked well. We did have one day where the power was out to the entire island, but Tom has installed solar and generators, so we were still very comfortable, almost like we didn't even know it was happening. I guess during the night of the outage, Tom and Elizabeth were up most of the night making sure our rooms had power to run the fans and lights.
The pool was very warm and inviting. We would jump in after returning from dives and a rinse off and have a warm soak.

They have just purchased a brand-new dive boat and it is very comfortable and plenty of room for the 9 of us. Chino and Mack were our in-water DM's and took us on marvelous dives that included swim throughs, canyons, walls, and the best safety stops I have ever had. Several dives were over 80 minutes! The coral growth/health is staggering, and the fish life was abundant. Nurse sharks so friendly they just kept coming around and around. I guess that is what you get when you are on a remote island and the only divers in the ocean :) Sarco and Selvin are the boat mates and took great care of us. A couple dives in the morning, back to the resort for lunch and the back out for an afternoon dive. Boat rides were no more the 10 minutes and are marked by buoys they would tie off to and an easy backroll and we were in the 83-degree water. It was a bit breezy, but they handled getting us back on the boat without any issues. The ladder is very sturdy and a breeze to get back onboard.

Tom took us to Low Cay to walk around and enjoy that delightful town, the Venice of Honduras. So unique with the canals that run through the town. No cars, basically a walking town. It is well worth an afternoon stroll.
I will mention that the no-see-ums are alive and well. I used picarden lotion and got almost no bites. Some that didn't use any kind of repellent did end up with some souvenir bites to take home. Bring your DEET or picarden and you'll be fine.

I would highly recommend Clearwater Paradise Resort and the Smith family hosts to anyone who wants to have a completely delightful trip. Being home a few days, I am reflecting on what just happened as it almost seems surreal. Book a trip today and make sure to eat a pecan muffin while swinging in the hammock as you reflect on how smart you are making the decision to go.
