Comments Overall, an excellent dive operation; While Kihei tends to be a center for most dive operations on Maui, I was looking for an operator closer to my 'west island' location. I'd seen good reviews for LD on this site and decided to give them a try. They have a very well stocked shop, staffed by friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people. They offer an amazing range of dive trips to the always popular Molokini, but also Lanai and Molokai. Our trip to Molokini was excellent. The skipper (Elliott) was very competent, confident and accessible as were the dive guides. The pre-dive briefs were informative and thorough. My guide (Josie) was excellent about calling our attention to interesting marine life. The corals at Molokini are excellent, as are the varieties and numbers of fish. We even enjoyed hearing Humpack whale songs underwater! Great food on board between/after dives.

My second trip was to a small pinnacle off the north end of Molokai, known for sharks. The crossing was rough with 7-10' swell, but the captain Sean handled it with aplomb and matched the excellence of Elliott two days before. We were well briefed and prepped by our guides for what would be a demanding entry into choppy water with a significant current. The dives here were amazing. The coral and fish alone would be well worth the dive, But within a couple of minutes, we were heading away from the pinnacle into blue water...we saw sharks-Hammerheads and Galapagos. The guides were excellent about pointing out 'the locals'. Certainly more than a dozen on the first dive(I lost count)..and at close range. One Galapagos probably approached me within 20-30'. Good photo op! Second dive...probably approaching a dozen. My only suggestion would be the dive guides could make more regular 'air checks' on the second dive trip. A mix of enthusiasm, fatigue (I haven't been able to dive more than a half dozen times the last year) and perhaps old, slow fins caused me to use air faster on the Molokai dive. I do compete in Triathlons so I don't think my overall conditioning was an issue. But I'll definitely use Lahaina Divers on my next trip!

UW Photo Comments Very good accommodation. A dedicated freshwater storage/rinse bucket is provided. On one trip with many photographers, several were put out. Guides were very helpful about handing and taking cameras on entry/exit.
