Comments Boat just out of routine dry dock previous month so in good shape. Crew were absolutely wonderful on board and diving; attentive, concerned, helpful, responsive, informative. Food was great and very plentiful. Cabins off the main lounge (TV, food prep, dining, seats) area so noisy guests may disturb light sleepers. Cabins (with private toilet/shower) small but adequate and quite nice, clean and comfortable. Dive area roomy. Two ladders and above water platform for entry and exit. Tanks filled just above 3000psi and almost immediately after return from a dive. 5 dives a day (last day only 2 AM dives); 2-3 sites per day. Night dive same location as afternoon dives so site familiarity is a given.
Winds raised some minor chop so boat rocked a little; did not affect diving. A few dives also had minor current or surge but nothing serious. Water temp did not vary more than a degree or so from 80 but dove skin suit and a full 5mm wet suit, comfortable in both. A 3mm shorty would have been perfect but didn't have.
Lot of dead coral from previous bleaching events. Disappointing. Some sites recovering with finger coral growth but very little variety.
Large populations of small fish species and quantities, many only found in Hawaii. Moorish idols, small parrot fish, lots of butterfly fish, wrasses, tangs. Saw a few small coastal manta rays. The two featured nite dives (different locations) with mantas didn't work out. No shows, except for one passing over head and gone in the dark. Did have 2 mantas feeding under the lights of the boat on another late evening. And the last evening late had a school (6-9?) of bottle nose porpoise swimming around the boat also. Saw one manta on one day dive that did a few passes near us before leaving the scene. A total of maybe 4 green turtles over 3 dives. Disappointed no large creatures.
All dives were guided, but did not have to stay with guide. Average dives started around 50-70', finished about 35' and lasted 45-60 minutes. Terrain was mostly rough lava, broken coral bottoms, 20-30' ridges, some tubes, arches to swim thru, and some sand flats. Good photo ops.
An excellent trip!

UW Photo Comments Good camera table prep space, charging area and 2 rinse tanks (1 either side of stern dive platform ladders). Dive guides very good at finding critters and pointing 'em out. Boat offered Canon camera and housing rental. Very satisfied with pic results. Again, only small fish, critters but most easy to approach and shoot.
