Comments This is a recommendation based on the dive operation, not on Maui Diving itself. That said, there were tons of frog fish, nudis, baby reef sharks still in small schools (some were only a foot long, others about a meter -- so cute!), and a bunch of octopuses, including a couple mating. the DMs have keen eyes and knew exactly where to look. No big pelagics on this trip, but whale season has begun and I wish I could have stayed a few more weeks. You are not going to see the biodiversity as you might in the Caribbean or SE Asia, etc, but it is lovely. Do bring a 5m if you are prone to getting cold. I wore a 3/4 plus a 1m skin and beanie and still was chilly. But I am always cold. Their wetsuits looked great -- all their gear was state of the art, well-tended to and clean.

I wish all operators ran the way Island Style Diving does. This is a truly professional operation who cares deeply about their customers and, even more importantly to me, their marine life and island. Javier and Christina have worked to ensure their crew is professional, thoughtful, interactive with customers and fun. It was truly lovely to not have to think about my gear, as they set it all up and if one is doing multiple days, they keep it and dry it out -- wetsuits too. They even rinse out your gear if you are there for just the day.

The boat is fast and small, holding I think about 14 divers, maybe less. I love this kind of diving as we all talked and shared stories. It felt intimate and not pushy like being on a large cattle boat -- though those have their benefits as well for sure.

When I return, and I will because it is such an easy flight from California, I am no doubt diving with them. They welcomed me with Aloha and I felt the love, care and expertise immediately.
