Comments We did one boat dive with Dive Makai (great snacks) and one with Kona Honu Divers (mostly fresh fruit). Both professional, helpful, fun. But the best diving in Kona is the easy shore dives. Favorite place is Puoko. Lots of turtles, healthy coral gardens, garden eels in the deeper sandy areas. We did 4 days of diving in Puoko, trying out different entries from picturesque coves and small beaches. Early Sept. seems to be very calm there. Place of Refuge (two-step) is a very popular shore dive spot but not much fish and low vis in comparison. Hawaii (kona) is good value and a decent dive and vacation destination if you can get a free mileage flight and stay in a condo (eat in).
