Comments I spent a rainy week on Fiji's Sun Coast. My bad luck. But no matter I dove every day on at least 15 different dive sights. However, in rough weather you will mostly dive the local reefs in the shallow waters within 30 minutes of VoliVoli. This means that the bottom will be kicked up and the Vis about 35ft which was enough to see the vast array of hard and soft corals Fiji is famous for but their colors could only be appreciated at 15 ft or above; thankfully there were many shallow pinnacle tops to take long deco stops. Unfortunately the same moorings used by the dive boats are also used by local fishermen so there are no larger fish on the local reefs, just the usual assortment of little Anthias and small tropicals. The occasional white tip made an appearance. We did not get outside to the the Vatu-i-Ra conservation area, known as The Reserve, until our 5th day because other groups were using the two big boats. When these groups finally left I was fortunate to get a skilled captain who got us out to The Reserve despite rough seas to dive sites like Pandora's Box, Mellow Yellow and Garden of Eden where the water was deep, the Vis was 75ft and the fish were big. Bumphead wrasse, Spanish Mackeral, Triggerfish and Trevally abound amidst schools of baitfish.

Hi Jeffrey! My dive trips in Dec 2016 and Oct 2017 in Raja Ampat and yap were marred by bad weather. Maybe I can get a chance to dive with both you and Simma in good conditions in the coming year .I am looking at Misool eco resort for Sept-Oct 2019 . Want to join me??? Laura Hope to see you soon!!
