Comments Nature Island Divers (NID) are a separate operation from Jungle Bay Resort. NID houses scuba training and world-class freediving operations. Overall the owners and staff at NID were outstanding. Stony Coral Disease has hit the area very hard. Probably, 80-90% of the hard corals are damaged. The bright spot for this is that the owners (Simon and Wendy Walsh) of NID are on the fore-front of treatment and restoration. They are taking the lead in research and hands-on techniques for the community committed to eradicating the disease. We arrived a few days after Hurricane Beryl slid past that part of the Caribbean. Understandably, water was a bit stirred up, corals were broken and sand had filled in sponges. Fish were plentiful, eels were active, but not many small critters seen.

Jungle Bay Resort is a relatively new eco-style, luxury resort located a short shuttle ride up the mountain from Soufriere on the southwest corner of the island. It is an all-inclusive or a la carte resort. It houses an excellent restaurant, gift shop, swimming pools, yoga studio, meeting center, workout room, and private balconied bungalows spread out over 50 acres of the mountain side. The owner, Sam, is a daily, hands-on presence and delight. Sam hosts an early morning, five-mile walk around the local community, along with a weekly tour of the resort grounds learning about the flora and fauna of the island.

There are many other activities on the island other than diving. Hiking, canyoneering, thermal pools and boiling lakes are just a few of the attractions. The people of the island are friendly and inviting. Being a former British possession, the population all speak english.
