Comments We had no sperm whales for the first 4 days. Very disappointing. We did have false killer whales day 1 and pilot whales day 2. Sporadic pods of dolphins but none that were bold enough to swim with us. At 10:30am on day 5 we began to spot sperm whales, finally. Something had evidently spooked them out of the area and upon their return they were very shy. We had no close encounters as a result. There's normally 10 pods of sperm whales that frequent the waters off Dominica.

I fully realize that there are no guarantees with such trips as to the level of encounters. Nevertheless, for the expense of this trip, it was quite disappointing.

No criticism of Amos or Amanda or Izzy. Amanda, our trip leader, was great as always as was Izzy (local guide) and Captain Jerry. The boat was good. The small group was great. The Anchorage is a good place to stay. You can stay elsewhere and spend more but the Anchorage has the right island feel.

UW Photo Comments This was a snorkel/swim only, not SCUBA, so a different environment. Lots of in and out of the water, sometimes quickly with little advance notice. As such, the cameras had to pretty much remain by the transom for rapid deployment.
