Comments This was our 7th country to dive, and based on first few hours, we thought Curacao might overtake Cozumel as our favorite, despite the longer, non-direct flight from DFW thru Miami. The airport was surprisingly nice, uncrowded, and the gleaming floors made a terrific first impression. Overall, Curacao was only a little more expensive than Cozumel, while the Dutch culture and infrastructure, both on the resort and in town, were more sophisticated and fresh. With only a couple exceptions, everyone we interacted with was very professional and friendly.

European cultural influences were obvious - any tipping for excellent service was especially appreciated rather than expected, and some CCard machines didn’t even offer the option! There were many more Canadia and European tourists, and a noticeably higher percentage of thongs and smokers, the latter especially noted in restaurants, which were all open-air but we did have to make up-wind table selections. There were even stations on the beach where you could grab an ash tray – that was a first, and kept the beach very clean. The beaches, at least on the southern coast, were notably clear of sargassum, which was a nice change after a recent trip to Belize, where it was a troubling concern this year.
