Comments This was my second trip to dive with Go West. I would have preferred to stay at All West Apartments, but an American group had them filled up. Rancho El Sobrino is just down the street. Rancho El Sobrino has a lovely pool and a very good restaurant, open only for dinner, and not open every day. We loved the cats that live at the resort! We had two rooms, one was freezing cold, the other never got cold. If you want a cold room, get an inside room. They also have spacious kitchen/eating areas outside, with hammocks, which we loved!

Go West did their usual excellent job. Unfortunately, we picked a week that they were fully booked, so we had as many as 17 people on the boat some days. It was too crowded for me, but they did a very good job keeping track of us and keeping us safe. There were fewer lionfish than the last time I was there so that was good. On the last day, the last dive of the week, the other group saw a whale shark!! You never know what you will find on Curacao. I much prefer the northwest part of the island, because it’s not crowded and touristy like the Willemstad area. The restaurants in the northwest are excellent, and it’s quiet. There are plenty of opportunities for shore diving, if you’re interested. There is even an excellent restaurant next to the dive shop!

I traveled with a good friend who was there to get her certification. She is out of shape, so was only able to get PADI’s “scuba diver” certification, which is limited to 12 meters, diving with a professional. She will work on getting her open water certification at another time. The dive professionals at Go West really did a good job helping her, because she was struggling. Shout out to Stefan, Maria and Benny. I also enjoyed diving with Oscar. All the staff at Go West are excellent at what they do, friendly and professional. You can’t go wrong with Go West!

I wore a 3mm wetsuit with a hooded vest, but got cold a few days into the trip. If you do get cold, consider taking a 5mm (several people were wearing 5mm) or a 3mm/5mm hybrid suit.

I prefer a liveaboard, and am a very spoiled diver. But Go West made land based diving fairly easy. If you need it, they will carry your gear to the boat, and even put it on you. There are good rinse tanks for your gear and camera equipment, a spacious room with hangers and lockers, a bathroom at the dock and a shop with great merchandise! I always buy a few shirts when I’m there. I hope to get back there again!
