Comments Avalon iii is a very nice boat even for large groups. Very roomy and comfortable common areas, dive deck was also roomy and clean, with separate rinse tanks for cameras and a camera table. The cabins are nice and kept very clean, everything worked!

The staff members were wonderful. We had one injury and they went out of their way to accommodate her, the boys even went to the mangrove forest and built her a lovely cane. I can't say enough about how happy that made her!

The dive boats held 12-16 people easily and the crew was extremely efficient and helpful. We did one dive before returning to boat for interval, dives about 60 min. Dive sites were about 5 min from liveaboard. 3-4 dives a day with a couple of night dives. Views awesome, rarely saw any other boats. This is a National Park put aside by Castro, who was a diver. And it is pristine. The vis was not as good as it was a few years ago, but still pretty good, considering the rain from the mainland produced some runoff and there were some chunks of the Sargassum seaweed gunk, but it was still better than other places in the area. There are lots of mangroves to filter out mainland debris. Cuba has little chemical fertilized areas and much of the island is rural farms or forested.

The weather was intermittent sunshine and rain. That depends upon the season. Most of us wore wetsuits but a few people were ok with shorts and t-shirt.

I suggest you do some land stuff if you have never been there. Havana is very interesting. I always felt safe, the Cubans are very nice people.

UW Photo Comments Mostly wide angle, sharks, large grouper, schooling fish. A macro photographer can find the usual shrimps, crabs etc, but the allure is big stuff.
