Comments We were also at Scuba Club in March, after Wilma. Shallower reefs covered in sand. Deeper reefs okay with new, larger swim-throughs.

This trip we saw some improvement in the reefs, and lots of improvement in the sea life. Much more fish, loads of turtles, many nurse sharks, 3 small black tips sharks, large groupers, and lots of small fish. The hardest hit by Wilma were sea urchins (only saw two small ones this trip, none in March), and no seahorses at all. The current varied tremedously. On one trip to Punta Sur we encountered very strong currents, some downdrafts, and a whirlpool at the surface. On other dives, we had no current at all, including a spectacular night dive where you could look up and see the boat and deck workers from 60 feet.

Scuba Club is at its best. We have usually been in spring and took advantage of a special to go in September. Very quiet, with only about 20% of the rooms filled. Service impeccable and the staff feel like family. Only two boats needed to take the divers, and we were on boats with as few as 5 divers, as many as 15, but Scuba Club has huge, roomy boats.
