Comments Puerto Morelos is a fairly short drive from the Cancun Airport. Cabs are expensive, but you can pre arrange private airport transportation to save a few $$$. The Hacienda Hotel is a pretty basic hotel with lovely ocean views. I wanted a relatively expensive location, close to the water, grocery store and diving. This was perfect. The dive operator is also onsite. Bonus-there is an onsite "spa" where I received the best massage I have ever had from Francisco. Some days food and craft vendors are set up in the town square and music plays. It is a great little area to sit and enjoy the evening. There are many souvenir shops along the boardwalk area. The grocery store is excellent and food is not too expensive.

The dive operation has good gear for rent and an excellent staff focused on safety. You are expected to put your own gear together, but the staff are available to assist, if needed. The boat was well maintained and provisioned for safety with adequate dry space for bags. There are no special photography amenities, but the crew is helpful to had cameras to and from the boat. Water entry is by backroll.

The diving was fairly average, with the highlight being the C56 wreck. I also did a few exploratory dives with the dive shop. We had some pretty strong currents, but drifted easily and saw several turtles. I appreciated that the exploratory dives were only offered to the experienced divers. I did a few night dives which were nice and longer than an hour. I have previously arranged cenote diving from this location. It is worth the experience if you have never done it.

Bottom line, good diving, convenient travel and relatively low cost hotel and amenities. Laid back vibe with no crowds. It is close to other popular dive locations and I have combined trips here with diving Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
