Comments Been to Cozumel many times over the past several decades; the reefs seem to have stabilized, though fewer fish (both large and small) than years ago. Still a nice dive destination, one of the best reasonably accessible.

Jeremy Anschel and Living Underwater remain a great dive operation for those who prefer the smaller - boat experience. He will pick you up at your Hotel's dock, provide Nitrox, large volume Steel tanks (both 100 and 120 cf available), towels, jackets if needed, and good leadership. Plus an interesting and friendly guy.

Environmental notes - August 2015 - Water temps between 84 and 86; despite this, coral bleaching seemed less than in the past. Is coral accommodating? The infestation of algae/seaweed was slightly less, and there were some areas where finger coral and even flat corals were displacing the algae and returning. Occasional lionfish, though not overwhelming; we did our part to control the infestation...

The water was very warm - 84 to 86 on my thermometer - and I think some of the larger fish had migrated deeper, and will likely return in a month or so.

Turtles on every dive, as well as nurse sharks. Large grouper, many huge lobster and crab.
