Comments First a comment on the accommodations at Blue Angel. This is a small hotel right along the shore, about a mile south of San Miguel de Cozumel [the island's main town]. It has its own restaurant that serves an excellent breakfast as well as other meals, and is close enough to town to walk in for other dining experiences if you are so inclined. I visited with my spouse and there was construction/repair work going on in public spaces [access to the small beach, hallways and stairwells]. The room was rustic, which is how we like it when traveling to Mexico, so we were pleased with our digs. We are Spanish speakers, and found the option of going out for evening meals a plus, although we had a couple of dinners at the BA restaurant and found them good, if a bit too salty for our palates. Breakfast of the resort's Papaya bowl or French Toast was excellent.

We dove with the resort's in house dive operation: Blue Angel Dive Shop. Our gear was cared for by Alfredo who kept everything in order for our one week stay. My spouse preferred the large dive boat, as it was the only one with a head. During the week we dove with the following DMs: Julio [Argentina], Rene [Chile] Pedro [Mexico], Mateo [USA], Andy [USA]. All DMs were good guides and knew the reef system well. We dove Dalila, Santa Rosa Wall, San Francisco Wall, Yucab, Chankanaab and Paradise [some more than once]. The diving was drift and with the exception of one dive along Santa Rosa Wall, a mild current. Eagle rays, nurse sharks and turtles were the largest marine life we saw, conch, sea horses and damselfish among the smallest. The viz was good on all dives, and most dives lasted from 45 minutes to an hour, depending on one's depth [maximum 75 - 80 ft]. As it had been several years since my spouse was diving in saltwater, this was a nice way to get re-acquainted with the sea. We dove only once from shore, in front of the resort, mostly as an orientation dive and a weight check.

Overall we had a very relaxing vacation and recommend Blue Angel Resort and Dive Shop for divers, especially those who want to combine diving with excursions into town and are open to exploring Cozumel beyond just the reefs and your resort.
