Comments This trip had very strong currents and blowing sand, and some lesser vis than usual. Required several repeats on some reefs but since current & direction changed often plus DM taking different routes, not a big deal. It is suggested you read report #11135 before this one as the OVERALL TRIP was the same.

Big difference to me was age and my head in the game. Dive skills underwater were no problem.. same as always except faster currents can influence choice of weighting and I was initially off a pound or two from optimum. Gas consumption EAN32 used as air), buddy was on air) only a bit higher then usual but surely due to the work with the current and trying to stay about halfway between buddy and DM. AND take the exit ramp from the fast lane when he did.

Life has been stressful lately and I did need to put more deliberate thought into trip prep, luggage weight because this time I needed a 10# heaver wheeled check-bag; ALL gear & personal items, and my routine on shore. Also ate & drank less evening toddies & beer and in fact lost 2# (not lead, but from me) on this trip.

Also with a unknown operator RENTAL boat on last day.. this time subbing for OCEAN 2 but still with our AS. dive crew.. our semi-charter had Inspection (passing OK). The alternate-boat destroyed a belt and overheated the engine on the way in causing a drift delay and the camera buckets of fresh water while they fixed the problem. This is actually our second time for that in recent years, neither breakdown being Aqua Safari boats. What is the record? I again noticed much rust in system, dirty air filter etc. Poor maintenance.

Note for those of certain ages or users of Hearing Aids: I need them now not to hear, but for the white noise "Zen" program which reduces screaming Tinnitus in one ear. And I hope not but probably every hearing aid diver has or will do this ONCE. Forgot to take them out for the check-out dive. One was lost to Davy Jones and one made a short dive for a few minutes but somehow survived. So I had lopsided Zen the rest of the week. TIP: Buy the H.A insurance: Back home BOTH were soon replaced with new for deductible cost of $300. No complaint there Better yet: Add this to your pre-dive check. I'm not going to let H.A.s get anywhere near pier, shore or boat any more.

UW Photo Comments Several GOOD photographers on this trip, and I don't know how they do it with those "lunar lander" housed cameras in strong current... but they can stop in the fast lane (or eddy) and they supply a lot of nice pics after the trip.
