Comments My interest in Aldora was driven by a need to get a warm water dive in not to far from home. Cozumel was a good solution. Research indicated that Aldora was the best operator in Cozumel. I went with Villa Aldora since the boat would pick up at the hotel dock. The Villa does require payment in cash on arrival Flying in no problem from DFW. On arrival I took a flex cab from the airport to the Villa, about a 10 minute ride for 100 pesos. ($6.31) On arrival, greeted by the manager Betzabe and shown to my room (Alexander suite) and given a general orientation.
Next morning show time at the dock 0730. Four of us from the Villa boarded a 26 foot boat. Our guide Alex conducted dock side brief and we were on our way. Aldora offers and encourages Nitrox with 32 and 36 percent. there is an expectation of 70 plus minute bottom times using 117 cubic foot HP steel tanks. i really liked the steel tanks for buoyancy control. I am a big air consumer so I went with 120 the first two days until acclimated, then back to 117's. i did two AM dives for five days, lost a day due to weather. The dives were unique to me due to the strong currents. Lots of small sea life and standard reef fish. Over the 10 dives, highlights were one shark, two turtles, a large sea ray and lots of lobsters. The big high light for me was being chased by a large green moray eel. I am not sure on cost comparison to other Cozumel dive operations, But Aldora is a very well put together outfit. Nitrox can be expensive. Aldora charged $10.00 for the two tanks, I have paid $8.00 in other places. Aldora is a great dive operator. My only reservation is whether or not to return due to currents in the area.
