Comments My dive buddies & I returned to the Yucatan to exclusively dive the world-renowned cenotes that dot the mainland up & down the Riviera Maya. On previous trips we have dove with a number of operations, but for this visit a Canadian dive operation caught my eye. It seemed reasonable to expect better communication with an English-first outfit.

Communications via email with Dave of Abyss Divers prior to the trip were very good & when we finally met Dave the day before we started diving we were happy to find that Dave was an easy-going, friendly sort who runs a good operation. While someone expecting a flashy diveshop with teeshirts for sale may be disappointed, we were not.

Abyss rental gear was very good quality & transportation to the cenotes was in a comfy truck. Dave was willing to take us to cenotes we wanted to dive, & not just the ones closest to Playa del Carmen. In the cenotes, four divers per divemaster is the limit & Dave gave a very good pre-dive briefing each time. Of course all the cenotes are spectacular & should be on every diver's bucket list.

Abyss Divers also ocean dives from Playa & the diving is interesting with lots of sea life, but my advice is once you're done with the cenotes, take the ferry to Cozumel for your ocean dives.

Abyss is reasonably priced & I won't hesitate to use them again.
