Comments Picked up at the airport by a van with "free" transport to the resort. Pre-arrival registration on line. No COVID restrictions at this time.
Went with a group of over 20. They divided us into 2 groups of 11-12 on their spacious 36 foot catamaran dive boats. Boats hav a spacious head, DAN emergency packs, radio and cell phone communication, great ladders, camera buckets and gear table. They gave special attention for those who wanted it and had enough of their own confidence to let you dive your own profiles after they got to know you. Boats, rental gear and compressor operations were very well organized, and reliable. Nitrox was spot on for 31% every day.
Most of the reefs were not the healthiest I've ever seen. Then we would go to another one (like a site called Mesa) that was swarming with schools of reef fish, great macro critters and we were swimming over some of the healthiest corals I've seen for some time. It was hard to tell what a site would look like. Shore diving in front of the resort is quite good once you get over the hardpan. Further out the coral is fairly healthy, the mermaid statue (Amphitrite) is a classic and on many divers bucket list. Further out from the shore there are the wreck of a WWll landing ship, a coral restoration project coral farm and several anchors including a huge (12 ft long) cruise ship anchor and an 18th century anchor. This is a great night dive due to easy access and lots of octopus.
We encountered some large critters including a 10-12 foot Great Hammerhead, several Eagle rays and Stingrays, Goliath Groupers and multiple Hawksbill turtles. There are several wrecks including the Kittiwake and the Oro Verde. The Pro Verde looks like a junkyard but is a macro photographers paradise.
Accommodations at the resort were clean with daily maid service, hot water, air conditioning and easy access to the pool and hot tub. The resort has a restaurant for breakfast, a bar called My Bar with food that is good enough for the locals to flock to it on weekend night. Of course, Grand Cayman has some very high end restaurants providing the highest delights of European culinary arts.
Cathy Church's photo shop at the resort provides access to more underwater photo equipment that you will see anywhere else and excellent course.
