Comments This was my 6th trip to LCBR over the last 20 years. The reefs were very good and I gave them a 5 although there were some minor issues. Coral is healthy. I gave the accommodations a 5 star for a dive resort but that would be a good 3 star if we were evaluating in the luxury hotel domain. Excellent room service. Safe tap waster. The bar is a classic for dive resorts. The resort was given a 5 star because of an excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. Special requirements were met. A high-end European restaurant would be more sophisticated but this is 5 star for a dive resort. Very responsive management for the inevitable problems that crop up. Nice to rice around the small town on the free bicycles available at the resort of go out to the small island out in the lagoon on the free kayaks,
The dive operation is first class. The line sign up app is extensive due to lawyers and diving medical requirements. There may seem be a lot of rules for the dive shop, the boats and the Marine Park but after a day or two of diving, they all seemed reasonable. Our Boat captain Tom on the Ocean Sister) added a few more and I at first though we were under the reign of a dive Nazi. After a few days of diving in 3 foot swells and 30 mph winds I realized he knew what he was doing with his additional requirements. There were no injuries. We all had a great experience on his boat with Jill and Kari as divemasters.
The reefs are in surprisingly good condition. The grounds and island itself are wonderful. Bicycle rides were wonderful. Bloody Bay Wall, a world famous dive site, is still in excellent condition. The 3 foot swells of the first few days resolved after the front passed. The sea does what it will.
Transport to and from LCBR from Grand Cayman was dreadful. Starting on Saturday, it took Cayman Airways 2 days for everyone in our group to arrive on Little Cayman from Grand Cayman. And it took 3 days (util Tuesday)for all their baggage to arrive.
On return back to Grand Cayman, we stood in the American Airlines line for 4 HOURS without moving before being told there would be no airplanes back to the USA that day. We then started a homeless odyssey of 72 to 86 hours in Grand Cayman via American Airlines. My voucher stated this was due to problems with "crew avail".
I suggest you travel to LCBR in spite of these problems. Travel on Friday or Sunday, not Saturday, when the system is overwhelmed with travelers.
