Comments Tortuga Divers is a well run dive operator, with very professional, courteous, and helpful Captains and Dive Masters (all were instructor certified that I dove with). They dove requested sites, and being on the NE corner of Grand Cayman, the deep dives were on very nice walls, and many of the 60' dive sites had complex coral formations that created interesting swim throughs or large coral blocks. It was very easy to have a excellent dive every time. There were not many big fish though.

The Reef resort is predominantly a time share exchange, but also has rental weeks and days available. All the rooms were ocean view, and about 100' from the water. There are several nice pools, bars and restaurants. The units are a combination of spacious studios , 1 and 2 bedroom units, all time share style. They were well maintained, clean and very accommodating when I requested a move from a noisy neighbor. I will exchange for this one again. But get at least a 1 bedroom; the studio only has a hotel bar refrig, sink, and a microwave which is inadequate for eating in the room all week, which we did everyday because eating out is so expensive. There is a grocery store right across the road from the resort which had adequate food to make meals with.

I wish I had known I would only receive a package rate for 5 days of 2 tank diving if I made a reservation on the dive operators website at home before I left. So even though I dove for 5 days I received no discount. The Tortuga employee taking payment felt bad and wanted to give me a package rate, but said he had gotten into "trouble" for doing this before for someone else. So alas full price, which is as pricey as everything else in Cayman.

That aside, I will come back here again, and soon. Having boat and shore dove on both sides of Grand Cayman the last time I was here (17 years ago!), the diving here on the East end and North side is far superior to the 7 mile beach side, and being 29 miles from Georgetown makes it almost like old Caribbean before the cruise ships came; almost, except for the "For Sale" signs on every property.
Stay on the East End unless you want to party and drive with the crowds in Georgetown.

If you are here for world class diving, with a great resort and dive operator, this is the place!
