Comments Little Cayman 4/18

My wife and 42-year dive buddy wanted some easy, pleasant Caribbean diving. And that’s what we got.

The diving was mostly the typical Cayman wall diving, and there seemed to be a diminished number of small, tropicals, possibly due to lionfish. The only shark we saw was under the dock where the dive boat moored. However, we did see large assorted groupers, barracuda, and turtles. The dive guides were good at finding and pointing out small critters, such as pipe seahorses and nudis. Our favorite dive site was Jackson Wall and Reef. It had beautiful corals and schools of snapper, schoolmasters, grunts, and permits in the grooves among massive coral heads.

One night dive was offered from the main barge dock. I enjoyed seeing the variety of shrimp and small creatures, as well as a couple of slipper lobster following each other across the sandy bottom.

The staff at Pirates Point was gracious and accommodating. They offered a happy hour nightly which included a self-serve bar and tasty hors d’ oeuvres. The food was excellent and obviously many guests return on a regular basis. We had the relaxing, pleasant trip we were seeking.
