Comments [None] y wife and I returned for our 10th trip to dive with Ocean Frontiers at Compass Point resort on the east end of Grand Cayman. We flew AA 350 from CLT to GCM nonstop , about a 3 hour flight. A small car is included in the package, picking it up at Avis for the 30-35 minute drive to the resort. The car was small, but certainly adequate. We were in a very nice clean up to date condo on the ocean, only a 90 second walk to the boats, all new 46 foot Newtons. The breakfast is included at the on-site restaurant, Eagle Ray’s and it was just ok. Their lion fish tacos are superb at other times, however.
The dive staff is superb, with a dive leader in the water with a max of 8 divers each, with 2 groups at a time and a captain still on the boat.
The corals showed some bleaching, but less than when we were in Little Cayman in August. The viz was great, generally 100+, but the water temp was consistently 88 degrees, which was like bath water. At 90 feet it was still 86-87 degrees.
There were not many grouper, but still a good many sharks, especially at Black Rock Reef and the “X” dive.
The Friday afternoon Macro dive is a blast! 25 feet for 95 minutes! Awesome!
All in all, the diving was very good, but the water was too warm.
A car is certainly needed, and we dined at Tukka’s ( twice) South Coast Bar and Grill, La Casita and Over the Edge. We went to the Foster’s in Boddentown for sandwich supplies, libations, etc.
We love this dive operation, which is the best, in my opinion, anywhere. Evan, James, Andy, Candace, Jon and the entire staff are great.
