Comments Compass Point East was outstanding. We had a beautiful condo on the beach literally 75 steps from the dive boats. Two pools, hot tub and great, reasonably priced restaurant on the premises. East end of Grand Cayman is uncrowded, but you do need a car. The west end of the island is MUCH better protected, but is an absolute crowded zoo. On the east end, if the wind is blowing from the east, it is ROUGH. One day with 30 knots of wind, we were shut down completely. A couple of other days, we crashed through nine foot breakers getting through the reef cut and four to five footers at the dive sites. When the wind changed direction, everything calmed down, but it blew from the east for four days out of ten. The dive operation, Ocean Frontiers, was superb and the dive masters couldn’t do enough for you. The three 46 foot dive boats were fast and stable and easily handled rough water. Visibility varied from 50 to 100 feet. The reefs and walls were outstanding and second to none. The fish life SUCKED. Except for a few reef sharks and some good size barracudas and turtles, there were NO fish larger than six inches and not even many small fish. Because of the lack of fish, the reefs are starting to get out of balance. Algae is beginning to grow on the corals and with very few grazers on the reef, it is overtaking many sections of reef. Overall, the diving was good, but if you book here, be prepared to dive the west end. When the wind blows east.
