Comments It is hard to know where to begin, as so much was amazing.

Bloody Bay Wall deserves its 5-star reputation. Across the many dive sites, the wall is sometimes sheer vertical, sometimes sloping, sometimes with ledges, and sometimes with catacombs, mazes, and swim throughs. The reefs are healthy, and we saw plenty of turtles (famous in the Caymans) and big groupers, among the many colorful reef fish. The moorings are located no deeper than 25 feet and often as shallow as 15 feet, so safety stops were very much a fun part of the dives.

The morning time limits are required in order to return in time for lunch. The dive masters would not have minded if we had stayed down longer for the afternoon dive, but everyone was happy with an hour in any event. I went below 60 feet on some of my second and third dives without any comment or hassle from the dive masters.

Bloody Bay wall, which is on the north side of the island, is just 30 minutes in the dive boat from the resort. When the wind is too strong from the north, there are sites on the south side. With ideal weather, we were able to dive Bloody Bay the entire trip, but one of my dive masters told me that the south diving is just as good in the shallows and almost as good (if not quite as dramatic) on the wall.

The dive operation and dive maters are top-of-the-line. After your gear is brought to the boat by staff on the first day, you set it up once. For each dive, the tank is brought to you at the stern of the boat and then taken from you after the dive. The gear is then placed in a new tank. It was like being on a live aboard. On each dive, you could follow the dive master or dive with your buddy on your own. Everyone is treated like an adult. Each boat has its own dive masters for the full week, so you get to know them and they you. On our boat, Therese and Phil were fun, funny, and enthusiastic on the boat, and whoever was in the water was dedicated to showing you a great dive if you chose to follow him/her. The analysis/reporting procedures for Nitrox divers were quick and simple.

The compact resort has comfortable rooms with air conditioning, a small beach and small pool, a tennis court, a friendly bar, and a dining room where all-you-can-eat buffets are served. The food was terrific and plentiful. There are activities planned each evening for those who didn't go to bed after dinner. Someone else can tell you about them. The island is small and sleepy, which is a plus in my book but not for everyone.

Shout out to Derek Prosser at Underwater Phantaseas in Lakewood, Colorado for organizing this trip!

After an upcoming trip to Bonaire, I plan to return to Little Cayman Beach Resort for all future dive trips. It was that wonderful.
