Comments This was our third trip to Brac (2018, 2019, 2022). We love the easy shore diving. Brac Scuba Shack takes excellent care of all shore divers' needs.
We waited to return until both US and Cayman travel restrictions were lifted. The once-plentiful fish and colorful reefs were gone. Lots of algae covering the corals and very few parrot fish (known algae-eaters). Instead of numerous live conch moving across the sandy bottoms, we saw just a few, and huge piles of discarded empty shells. Nobody was able (or willing) to say what might have happened, but we suspect overfishing that got out of control while the borders were closed. The half-dozen dive sites we visited were no longer as vibrant and full of life as they were in 2018-19. That is why we reduced the 5-star ratings from the review of our earlier visits.
One high point, however, was a spotted eagle ray with a six-foot wingspan at Scott's Dock. Also a few stingrays and good-sized groupers, though they had been more plentiful on previous visits.
The wind shifted around during our stay, so on some days the south shore was unusually calm while the north shore was choppy. It was a rare privilege to shore-dive from the south shore.
I thought I had posted this review in November but somehow failed, so conditions may have changed.
