Comments My daughter and I spent a week on the BVI Aggressor diving the islands around Tortola in the BVI. I picked a poor month because November is still in hurricane season and the rainy season. It was rainy or cloudy most of the time. The runoff caused the sea water to be murky at times. There was still plenty to see, though. The BVI Aggressor is relatively new and is one of the largest boats in the Aggressor fleet. It was well laid out and spacious. The crew bent over backwards to show us a good time, but safely. We spent a whole day diving the RMS Rhone wreck. In many dive spots the current was too strong to dive or we did a drift dive.
Because of unforeseen circumstances, the crew was short one divemaster. On many of the dives, there was only one divemaster to guide two groups of divers. While Aggressor liveaboards emphasize that they rely on the Buddy system for dive safety over divemaster supervision, in the murky waters with strong currents it is easy to get separated from the group. More than once I got left behind and had to surface to get back to the tender. All diving is done from rubber raft type tenders. This is more work to get in and out of, but is necessary to get into locations too shallow for the main boat.
My daughter is still somewhat inexperienced and needed more time to submerge. She also ran out of air sooner. She was given a 100cu tank and if she ran out earlier than the rest of the group a divemaster would guide her back to the boat so the rest could continue the dive. Jon in particular was attentive to her needs and made her feel confident and comfortable in the water.
