Comments The Plaza Resort is undergoing some multi-year renovations. The pool area and dining room are quite nice. There is a new lobby that is still roped-off, but it looks spectacular—out of place, almost with the rest of the resort.
I have learned to keep expectations in check in the Caribbean, but the owners might have spent a little more money/time on the guest rooms. Still, I and the rest of the people in my group came to dive so little inconveniences with the room were just that.
The dive operation is a well-staffed, well-oiled machine and all of the dive professionals were friendly—mostly young people from the Netherlands but a few locals as well. There is no help setting up or switching out your tanks unless you want to pay for concierge service. No one in our group did.
Nitrox is free if you want it.
One of the guides, a cool dude named Spider, was excellent. He has an innate sense of where the critters are hiding and every dive with him was off the chain.
I know shore diving is the thing in Bonaire, but we had many older divers in our group and so boat dives were best, especially given the heat.
Stony coral tissue disease is of course a big issue in Bonaire right now but there is still plenty to see, especially dive sites like Salt Pier and Bachelor’s Beach.
