Comments Our family of five has been diving in Bonaire for over 30 years. On our first visit to Bonaire we stayed at Divi flamingo beach. We were so impressed we bought a 40 year time share at Divi. Diving was easy, just off the shore. Photography instructors Jerry Schnabel and Susie Swygert got me started into underwater photography. (Flickr: Robert E Wrenn). The dive site was 50 yards from our time share. Locker storage was on the dock - no need to drag things to the room. Boat dives, a.m. and p.m. were less than 30 min. to destinations. Many dives sites were accessible from the shore. Dive masters were always friendly. Dive store operation was always friendly. Modest equipment sales, but repairs were quick and efficient.
There are two dining rooms on the facility. Meals were above average to excellent. The local town is one half mile from the property. Shopping is close by. We had a small kitchen. Grocery stores are close and offer great variety of foods, including Gluten free items for me.
We are older, have purchased several more time shares over the years for the kids and plan to continue to visit this beautiful, friendly island.
Helen Thode with the department of tourism, will help with any travel needs.
Serge DeGroot, dive shop manager, will go above and beyond to make your visit safe and enjoyable.
Water temperature: 3-5 mil wetsuit. Very little rain. Beautiful sunsets.
Fish are mostly small, occasional nurse shark, many turtles and morays, lionfish on most dives, lots of good macro stuff. With shallow shore diving, there is a lot of bottom time for photography.
There has been a change in coral, especially soft corals over the years that we have been diving. Most corals are very healthy, but there are fewer soft corals than before.
The majority of the shore waters are in a Marine park and protected from fishing and anchors.
For friendly people, easy diving and non-stop flights from Atlanta, you can't beat Divi Flamingo Beach in Bonaire.

UW Photo Comments Marco capital of the Caribbean. Not much drift diving, more time for photography. Reef starts near shore (30-100 yards) and easy access from shore. Dive at your own pace.
