Comments The best thing about diving in Bonaire is that you’re at your own pace; you just pick up tanks in the morning and head off in your pick-up truck. Some of the entries and exits are a bit challenging – and some sites you realize can only be accessed by boat – but the rest of them are simply a lot of fun diving in the Caribbean. Typical Caribbean fish life; really interesting corals – especially at the northern-most sites that are just outside the national park, where it feels as though you’re diving in Alice in Wonderland with huge green mushrooms around you. Visibility not as good as I would have liked. And overall, not too many turtles (which are a favorite of mine) – except at Salt Pier where there were a number of them of them feeding in the shallow water. Lots of lettuce leaf slugs, all different colors – and many of them were gorgeous when the sun hit them right. The sites in the national park were also worth diving. We literally took every dirt road on the island were rewarded with some really nice dives in somewhat secluded areas. Last dive we drifted back to our condo (Den Laman) and wound up swimming through a bait ball and just exploring the shallows – lots to see there. And don’t miss the resident octopus at the Den Laman dock. Also, highly recommended is a food stop in Rincon at one of the local restaurants, as long as you can figure out when they are open. This was probably the best meal that we had on the island. Food at Den Laman the one night we tried it, was not great. Some other spots were definitely better – the Turkish restaurant is worth a stop. And the brewery was the only place in town to get really good beer. The condo itself at Den Laman was a bit run down but a great location, really nice house reef and the swim to Klein Bonaire was a lot of fun. Next trip, we’ll hop on one of the boats out to dive some of the sites out there.
