Comments As for the dives: we dived Glovers Atoll, South Water Caye, and a whale shark expedition. South Water Caye was outstanding — nice swim-throughs, loaded with soft corals, some nice hard corals (less bleaching than other destinations), sponges, shrimp, and loads of tropical fish up to 40cm. A couple nurse sharks swam among us during the dive, probably expecting lionfish parts.
Glovers Reef was ok, less spectacular than South Water Caye. Still, soft corals, pretty fish, barracuda, grouper, a remora, and swim-throughs.
The whale shark trip was a dud. 1h15 ride to Gladden Spit, stride into the water, drop to 20m and swim after the DM for 30min into the open blue water in search of snapper schools at the edge of viz. Almost all divers low on air by then, and NO whale sharks. We saw 1 turtle and 4 jacks between 2 dives.
The crew and captain were courteous, knowledgeable, highly qualified and set up/change tanks for you. Boats hold 12-16 divers and can feel crowded when gearing up. Lunches were locally made and good.
The problem with all the diving is the long boat rides to get there from the mainland. The boats have no seat padding as we get slammed up and down even in 1- or 2-foot seas, so some of us grabbed towels to sit on. And then, the dives get capped at 40 minutes. Beginners can surface with the asst DM early, but some of us were getting the 3-min safety stop sign with half a tank left. I spoke to the shop director about this, and he says his DMs go every day and they can’t keep track of all divers’ consumption. So, long bumpy ride for 2 or 3 40-min dives. Also note: no camera table or bath.

The hotel we chose was great — right on the beach (very windy), easy walking distance from lots in town. They pick u up from and drop u at airport. Suite style rooms were perfect for us.
