Comments Great crew with Frenchie’s Diving on Caye Caulker. Crowded boat (24 divers), but the crew managed the numbers well. Water and snacks always available. Groups of 5-6 divers, drift dives, nice pace, casually led by observant dive masters. Dove three days before wind cancelled the trip to Turneffe North. Day one was Spanish Bay; 45-minute boat ride with low vis and not many critters. Day two was an early start (5:30 a.m.) to the Blue Hole (2-hour boat ride) with cool stalagmites. Second dive at Half Moon Wall was the best dive with lots of marine life, beautiful topography, and great vis and color. The break and lunch at Half Moon Caye was nice. Third dive, Aquarium, was nice. Day three we went to Toolbox and Esmeralda (30-minute boat ride) with a break in San Pedro. Throughout the week saw lots of sharks, a few morays, a couple rays, one turtle, drums, jacks, blue chromis (I think), parrot fish, nudibranchs, crabs, some good-sized groupers, a few lobsters, and only a few lion fish. Another group had a pod of dolphins come through. We noticed lots of big sponges, various fans, and corals. I think the overnight trip to Half Moon Caye would have been excellent, but it was not available that week.

Excellent accommodations at Island Magic. Nice rooms (ask for rooms 2, 3, 4, or 9), good restaurant, great staff, nice pool, nice dock, and bikes. They also arranged our flights from Belize City, taxi, and golf cart rental. Great location just south of lots of restaurants and about a 20-minute walk to The Split.

For our first Belize experience, Caye Caulker was a great choice for our group of divers and non-diver. The island motto of "Go Slow" is very true! Next time I would probably want to be closer to the Turneffe area to avoid long boat rides.
