Comments Ecologic Divers pier was about a 20-minute beach walk from our bungalow. The beach had a lot of stinky sargassum. Some restaurants and other businesses removed the sargassum and maintained the beach. Others did not.
I dived 2 days with Ecologic - one afternoon, then 3 dives the following day. There had been high winds for several days. Ecologic has 2 or 3 small boats. The Captain drove out to the dive site, and the DM helped us into our tank before back-rolls. After the dive, we removed our gear in the water before climbing the small ladder. The Captain or DM hoisted our gear onto the boat. For this service I give a big tip!
We dived outside the reef, which was far less crowded than Hol Chan inside the reef. The reefs are fairly deep, 65 feet at their crests and 100 feet to the sand between them. The reefs are gorgeous, and soft and hard corals were mostly alive and well at March water temperatures. I saw both live and dead elkhorn (acropora palmata) and one dead pillar coral (dendrogyra cylindrus). DM Greg led nice-and-easy dives, leaving us plenty of time to look for things and take photos. I did 4 REEF surveys in 2 days. There were fewer fishes than I expected, I think because of overfishing and the presence of invasive red lionfish. I saw a couple of reef sharks and 2 loggerhead turtles.
Ecologic did not seem to hover over its experienced divers, so if you are a new diver and would like more attention, let them know.
I highly recommend Ecologic Divers San Pedro.
