Comments The dive sites in Belize have changed dramatically since our last visit (May 2022). I’ve always loved Belize and enjoyed the diving there more than any other Caribbean destination. This was our fourth time on the Belize Aggressor III. We planned our October 2023 visit purposely because of the Glovers Reef itinerary. Due to a high wind forecast, the captain (Daniel) called off the visit to Glovers, changing it to the Aggressor III’s regular itinerary. The high wind never materialized though, and we had lovely weather all week. The captain also mentioned that the bleaching on Glovers Reef was even worse than Lighthouse, etc. It looked to me like 40 to 50% of the hard coral is bleached white, which gave the seascape a strange polka dot appearance. Apparently, they have had a very warm summer throughout the Caribbean and Belize is not the only area effected. There is still some hope the coral will recover when the water temps drop this Fall.

On a happier note, divers are doing a great job ridding the reefs of lionfish. I saw very few (less than three) all week. Sharks on nearly every dive, several close spotted eagle ray encounters, a couple turtles, and some friendly grouper. Not many other fish though.

The staff of the Belize Aggressor III are amazing! Monique (co-captain and great dive guide), dive guides Jay and Sean also do a fantastic job. The chef (J.R.) and assistant chef (Randy) made some amazing meals and deserts. Overall, it was a great trip but sadly may be my last visit to the Caribbean.
