Comments We arrived a couple days earlier and stayed at the Radisson Ft George which was really convenient. The boat took us to dive locations in Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe Atoll. We had planned to go to the famous Blue Hole, but this was skipped due to weather conditions. I didn’t mind too much since I dove the Blue Hole previously and it is a “once in a lifetime” experience. My daughter was still an inexperienced diver and just got her AOW and Nitrox certifications on this trip, so she had been apprehensive about diving the Blue Hole anyway.

First day checkout dive was at Amber Head North in Turneffe Atoll and then the boat was moved to dive Doschichas and Painted Wall at lighthouse Reef. These were somewhat unremarkable but were in clear warm water with no particular current. The next day we moved to a nearby spot and dove Half Moon Caye Wall and Tarpon Caye. We were able to get good pictures of sharks, rays, groupers, jawfish and the usual tropical fish. On the next day we stayed in the same general area and dove some of the same sites. The following day we dove Aquarium and Cathedral Reef. Then on the next day we dove Chain Wall and Long Caye Wall where we saw a small seahorse. On the final day of diving we went back to Turneffe Atoll to dive Amber Head South.

There were several night dives, although some had to be cancelled because of weather and timing. During one of the night dives there was a large hermit crab that everyone got good pictures of. During the day we saw reef sharks nearly every day. On one day there were three that seemed to follow us around and come very close. They were probably looking for a free handout from divers spearing lion fish. They would swim right toward us and then turn to the side when they got within two feet. It made for some exciting photography.

The boat was very nice, the food was great, the staff friendly and helpful and there was nothing bad to say about anything on the trip. Everyone had to be vaccinated in order to take the trip and COVID-19 testing was done on the boat before being taken to the airport. I would definitely go on this trip, or an equivalent, in the future if I can.
