Comments CocoCay is an island owned by Royal Caribbean cruise line. Only their cruise ships stop here and you have to sign up for a scuba diving excursion through the ship. It is very popular and sells out fast. I was able to get a cancelation before boarding the ship.

This is a shore dive from a swimming/snorkeling beach. You have to wade into the water and make your way through people who are swimming. All the diving is in very shallow water and never deeper than 30 feet. Because it is near the beach, the water has stirred up sand which reduces visibility. Still the water is pretty clear and there are fish and coral to see. I saw a white spotted moray eel among typical tropical fish. A jetski tows you from the beach area after you enter the water to the diving site away from swimmers.

You can bring your own equipment, as I did, or use theirs as part of the price. The price is nearly the same whether you dive "with equipment" or without. It is a single one-tank dive and then you walk back to the dive shop. You can wash off your gear and hang it up to dry before going back to the ship if you want to. There are free BBQ buffets on the island and other attractions such as a water park. Almost everything you do has to be paid for and reserved except swimming and the food buffet.

All in all, it was a decent dive, although not one of the best I have experienced. If you are a diver, it is better than anything else you can do while there except eating.
