Comments We have been to San Salvador twice in the past but our most recent trip was in 2007. Based on the Undercurrent reviews in the 2022 Chapbook, we decided it was time to return. We tried to book airfare during Spring Break but all of the direct flights were booked. Going later in April, we had no problem getting a direct flight, out of Miami.
The accommodation were hotel like but clean and well maintained. There were several choices for lunches and dinners. The breakfast was the same each day but had a large choice of items. I would classify the food as comfort food but it was very well prepared, varied and tasty. My wife and several of the others were vegetarians and the staff tried very hard to accommodate them. There were lots of fresh fruit and veggies.
There was quite a large group of divers, (18+.) Even with the large group, everything ran smoothly. We did 2 boat dives after breakfast and another around 3 in the afternoon. Most of the dives were only a short boat ride from the marina. It was rarely flat seas but the waves were usually small and there was very little current. Nitrox was available with prior notice. ( They would get the tanks from Club Med.) The two dive masters, Tyler and Betsey, did a great job of getting us a thorough briefing before each dive and keeping an eye on us in the water. We saw 1-4 reef sharks almost every dive. There was quite a bit of variety to the sites and the dive masters were very knowledgeable about all of them. They stressed safety but also gave us total dive freedom.
The trip overall had a nice, family feel about it. We enjoyed the time on the boat and having happy hour with everyone before dinner. We are planning on returning in the near future with our adult children for a family dive trip.
