Comments The crew were terrific, friendly, eager to assist; dive briefings were detailed and thorough. But the Caribbean Explorer 1 is in serious need of maintenance. Sometimes there was no fresh water pressure in the sinks. The "purified" water was tinted and brackish (thank heaven for a good stock of club soda). Cabin a/c did not cool. Only 2 days out of the week did the Nitrox hit 32%, the rest of the time 27-29% (when I complained on last day checkout, they credited me 50% on Nitrox charge).

But the hot water shower upon un-suiting was terrific.

The food was mediochre, 4-5 out of a 10. Eggs for breakfast only one morning, the rest of the time, pancakes or French toast. But, vegetables and fruit were fresh and good.

Diving conditions were good, although lettuce leaf and fishnet algae have definitely proliferated since my last trip there 8 years ago.

Would I go back on the CE 1? Maybe yes, maybe no, depends on alternatives.

A suggestion to all...arrive a couple of days in advance or stay a couple of days at the end, and go the 1 mile across the harbor to Stocking Island and stay at Hotel Higgins Landing. See my separate review on this very special paradise.
