Comments Quicksilver picked us up in a van from our hotel. We checked in at the shop and had releases to fill in on the boat. Met the divemaster who informed us we'd be in a group of six. There were multiple groups of divers, including discover scuba. We seemed to have been divided into groups based on our experience levels. Our group of six was composed of very capable divers. Everyone was respectful of time, space and sealife. We had one divemaster leading our group.

If renting gear, it's already on the boat. After meeting the divemaster, they called divers to the back of the boat, hand out equipment and assign tanks. Tanks, regulators and BCs were already set up for the renters. Our group of six were all on the same bench and, space wise, it was fine. Not too crowded to comfortably gear up.

After setting up gear, there was a dive briefing with our group of 6 divers, discussing signals, time and depth limits, etc. Ten minutes before getting to the site, they called the divers to the back of the boat to gear up. After gearing up, there was a site briefing.

The operators timed things out so different dive groups entered the water together. I was impressed with the organization. Considering how many divers and snorkelers were on the boat, it didn't feel chaotic.

The divemaster set a comfortable pace, pointed out sealife and kept us away from the new / discover scuba divers.

There were 2 more dives, each at difference sites along Agincourt Reef. 15 minute SIT before dive 2. There was a longer SIT before dive 3, which allowed time to eat (they provided a warm lunch).

It was about an hour boat ride to and from the reef. The boat was spacious and it was easy to find a comfortable place to rest.

Everyone I interacted with was very nice - divemaster, coach driver, shop clerk, other divers etc.

Reef was healthier than I expected. Saw nudibranchs, shrimp, anemones, seastars, clams, urchins, many schools of small tropical fish, limited large fish, very nice variety of corals.

My only complaint is that we were limited to 45 minute dives, which had me returning to the boat with half a tank of air. All dives were 60 feet max depth. From pick up to drop off was an 8 hour day with about an hour and thirty minutes of diving.

I recommend this operation if you have 1 day to dive in Port Douglas. Next time, I'm going to aim for a liveaboard for 3 or more days.
