Comments The booking process from the UK was fairly straightforward, one reason we went with Scorpion was because Mostafa the office manager was more responsive and helpful than other dive centres we enquired at. Scorpion were flexible when it came to changing our dive priorities once there and while at times the scheduling, transfers and time keeping were lax the quality of the refresher dive tutoring and the general attention to safety and oversight on board boat was first class. Despite the dive boat loading to be a little chaotic with crowded quays I cant fault the service on board boat, the boat crew and the dive crew were super attentive, professional and helpful.
The diving though is what we are all there for right? Sharm el Sheikh is supposedly world class and it certainly has some great corals and excellent levels of fish life - although not as many biggies as they would have you believe, but still in our depleted oceans it still stands out. The problem is that attracts massive crowds of divers and snorkelers - a factor of a 100 x more than we had some years ago in El Gouna across the straights. On one trip to the Raw Mohammad marine park there were nearly 100 dive boats in processions heading there and on location - that equates to congested, and potentially dangerous dive sites with boats coming and going while drivers are beneath. Personally IF I ever went back to Sharm i would try a smaller boutique dive operation like Sinia Divers, they are way more expensive and only operate fast ribs (with the limitations of poor ride, limited sun shade, etc) but they get out and back faster and probably do a better job of avoiding the crowds, at a price.
Red Sea diving is great though, I think next time I will head south and choose a quieter resort area like Marsa Alam
Last observation, many of Sharm's hotels trade down to a price, its very competitive and the quality suffers. We stayed at the Four Seasons and while i will be the first to admit it was expensive the location, service and facilities were outstanding, oh and they had a sublimely beautiful little house reef for an end of day snorkel.
