Comments I've been taking divers on dive trips for over 30 years and Ramon's is truly one of the best places in the Caribbean for divers. For the money, this one is really hard to beat. The resort it very well run, with restaurant, dive shop, gift shop, and several amenities on premises. There is also a grocery store, and several places to eat within walking distance. The dive guides take good care of divers and the hotel staff truly accommodates their guests and they genuinely make their guests feel welcome.
As an underwater photographer, I never lacked for subject matter. There are a multitude of nurse sharks on most dives, as well as Caribbean reef sharks and turtles. There have been several occasions where I've seen a spotted Eagle Ray as well. The coral is very healthy and there are lots of tropical fish on every dive.
Divers have the option to take a trip to the famous Blue Hole and Turneffe Reef with the dive shop at Ramon's as well. When you do those excursions they generally offer three dives during the day along with an all you can eat home cooked meal and snacks on the boat.
Unlike some of the other out islands, you also have multiple restaurants, some nightlife, and shopping for local art in the town of San Pedro if that's your thing. Most dive locations are within easy access of the dive dock, and you don't have to take long boat trips to get to the mooring, unless you want to go to the Blue Hole or Turneffe.
While Ramon's is a very nice place to stay, you can also book Steve and Becky's across the street for less money and the setting is quite nice. The food at the resort is always good, and once you get past the fact that the charges are in Belizian dollars, which are double the US rate, you realize that the cost is quite reasonable. With that said, there are many other restaurants on the island -some fancy and some not so much.
I am taking a group back to Ramon's in June of 2024, and would always welcome any opportunity to return-I think it's a place I could go every year and never get tired of. It's good for beginners (although sometimes tricky to get back in the boat post dive due to the wave action), or advanced divers as there's something for everyone to enjoy. I highly recommend it to any diver of any level. If it were possible I'd rate this four and a half stars overall.
